The Bija Voices
The Bija Voices is a multi-generational female vocal ensemble performing global repertoire for benefit causes. Members are comprised of selected Bija Children's Choir program alumnae as well as women from the vocal collective, KINDRED.
The Bija Voices is currently organizing a special recording and performance project, "See Upon Your Path", that raises awareness and funds to help create educational opportunities for the current 62 million adolescent girls in the world who have no access to education. One of the global initiatives we're supporting is #LetGirlsLearn, spearheaded by Michelle Obama several years ago. If you have singing experience and would like to take part in recording a track with us on this project, please email the director, Maria Bija, at firstname.lastname@example.org, with "See Upon Your Path" in the subject heading, to learn more details.
KINDRED VOICES is a women's vocal collective that has evolved over the years, initially having grown out of the first season of the Bija Children's Choir in 2008. At first these women were all Bija Choir moms who had past singing experience, and enjoyed sharing the stage with their children under the direction of Maria Bija. Over the years members changed, and began performing for community events unrelated to the children's choir, such as a Ceres Project benefit, Cancer Survivor's Workshop. SunRidge School's Fall Festival, Aubergine's, and the opening celebration of the Sebastopol Community Market.
KINDRED VOICES is now a group of four women who draw upon their repertoire of 'American roots and branches' songs for local events from time to time. The women of KINDRED are all busy mothers in addition to their other occupations as engineer, Waldorf teacher, early childhood music program director, and nonprofit director and performing/recording artist. They share a common love for quality music, a conscious healthy lifestyle, and as well, share an uncommon kindred connection through song.
